Brenda Carole Anthoine Shaw peacefully entered her eternal home on March 1, 2022. She was born on April 28, 1940, in Fort Valley, Georgia to Edgar L. and Adjean Anthoine, where she was raised the seventh of eight children. She grew up in a loving home, learning the importance of hard work, honesty and family devotion… values she lived by and nurtured as the heart and matriarch of her family. She was best known for her grace, kindness, unconditional love and southern charm.
Brenda served her country as a dedicated military wife and through her civil service career at various posts spanning more than 47 years. She enjoyed movies, music, tennis, novels and UGA football. She was an avid gardener, wonderful cook and tasteful decorator, with a flair for southern hospitality. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, generous volunteer for many charitable organizations as well as a lifelong member of the Baptist Church. She especially loved spending time with family, friends and her “fur babies”, Georgia and Daisy.
Brenda is survived by her adoring husband of 35 years Mike; siblings Pat (husband Jerry), Edgar L, Jr. (wife Polly), Ray (wife Rochelle); children John (wife Samantha), Leslie (husband Thomas), Charles (“Chip”) and Mary Frances (husband Christopher); grandchildren Josh (wife Monica), Maggie, Wesley, Christopher (wife Abby), Mathew (wife Anna), Sophia (husband Fred) and Ansley; great grandchildren Jonathan, Jacob, Christopher and Jack; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Edgar L. and Adjean and siblings Beverly, Edwina, Roy, and Gerald. Throughout her life she was a devoted mother and wife and cherished friend to many. Brenda’s sweet and gracious spirit touched so many and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Brenda’s life will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at the First Baptist Church Brandon located at 216 N Parsons Ave. Visitation begins at 10am followed by a memorial service at 11am. A reception will also be held immediately after the service, details to be provided at the church. A live stream of the memorial service will be available for those who can only attend virtually. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Brenda’s memory to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project.

We are so sorry for the loss of your mom.
She truly was a sweet southern lady. Growing up, I learned a lot from her. Everything from cleaning house to chewing your chips quietly. (haha!)
I know she will be missed.
Little did I know 2 weeks before she entered heaven, sitting beside her at Bible Study,it would be the last .
Brenda always made me smile and give a good laugh. Great sense of humor, true southern lady, beautiful inside and out.
We shared a love of Georgia and the bulldogs. My dad was from Georgia and devoted Georgia bulldog football fan.
Our Bible Study will definitely miss Brenda.what a special lady. I’m sure her legacy will live on in her children, grandchildren and great grands. My prayers are with the family as you grieve the loss of someone so loved.
