Edward J. Hand Jr., “Eddie” passed away on July 19, 2022. Eddie was born on September 8, 1943 in Manhattan, N.Y., to the late Edward J. Hand and Patricia Carson Varga. Eddie grew up in the Bronx, New York and at the age of 17 years old joined the United States Marine Corp. Eddie served from 1961-1969. During that time Eddie was involved with the Cuban Crisis and did tours in Vietnam. Eddie earned numerous medals for his tours and outstanding service. After being discharged from the Marines, Eddie worked for Emery Air Freight as a tractor trailer driver
at JFK airport for 25 years and involved with the Union-Teamsters Local 295.
In 1992 Eddie moved to Boca Raton, Florida. Eddie became very active in the community and the
American Legion there.
In 2000 Eddie moved to Seminole, Florida where he dedicated his life to the Veterans. Eddie was a member and former officer of American Legion Post 252, and member/officer of the American Legion Riders Chapter 252 . Eddie was also a Life Member and former officer at VFW Post 9272. Eddie was also a member of the elite 40/8 Club.
Eddie met his wife Marie in 1970 while working at JFK Airport. They became best friends and were married on October 4, 1986 giving them 40 wonderful years of marriage and 51 years of friendship.
Survivors include his brother, a son, two daughters, 7 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren and much-loved extended family in New York.
Eddie will be remembered for his dedication to his family, friends, fellow Veterans, and his country. No one will be able to forget his loving heart, his beautiful hair, and special cologne.
Funeral Mass will be held on August 26, 2022, 11:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 11565 66th Avenue North, Seminole, FL 33772. Burial will take place on the same day at Bay Pines
National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
There will be a Celebration of Life at American Legion Post 252, 11433 Park Blvd., Seminole, FL. 33772 on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.
