Velia Vinas


Velia Vinas, 90, of Tampa, Florida, died February 27, 2023, at Canterbury Tower following an extended illness. Velia was born on December 26, 1932, in Havana, Cuba. She was the Daughter of Rogelio Quevedo and Candida Rodriguez Quevedo. On December 11, 1954, Velia married Felix Vinas in Cuba, they shared 66 years of marriage.

Survivors include her sons- David (Leticia) Vinas, and Nestor (Cary) Vinas, grandchildren- Gavin Vinas, Jennifer (Aaron), Christopher (Katie) Vinas, great-grandchildren- Eloise Brown, Oliver Brown, and Everett Vinas. Velia was preceded in death by her husband- Felix, Mother- Candida, Father- Rogelio, and Brother- Osvaldo.

In her life, Velia was a seamstress. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and watching Spanish Novelas. She lived in Cuba for the first 30 years of her life and migrated to the US in 1962 where she spent 25 years in Long Island, New York prior to relocating to Tampa, Florida in 1987. She was so proud to have the courage to leave Cuba with her husband and son to escape the communist regime. She was very proud of her two sons, being a grandmother and great-grandmother, and having her loving husband Felix by her side throughout their 66 years of marriage. She was known for her tenacity, love, and dedication to her family and close friends.

The family wishes to thank all the staff at Canterbury Tower for their love and care provided to her for the last 2 years.

Her Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 18th at 4:00 pm at Veterans Funeral Care 830 N Belcher Road, Clearwater, Florida 33765.
