Joan Kay Scott, 93, a resident of Pinellas Park, peacefully passed away in her sleep at Mid-Pinellas Hospice on Nov. 16, 2023. She has now been reunited with her late husband, James William (Bill) Scott, who predeceased her in December of 2012. Together, they are survived by their sons, Timothy Scott and Lee (Chris) Scott, along with six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Bill, a US Marine Corps veteran, was a devoted member of the American Legion and Am Vets. Both Joan and Bill shared a lifelong passion for music and were distinguished founding members of the Sunsation Show Chorus. In addition to their musical pursuits, they were also avid tennis players, further bonding over their shared love for the sport. Joan, a passionate reader with a keen interest in the arts, literature, and current events, lived a life enriched by her love for knowledge and culture. In addition to her love for reading and playing the piano, Joan remained a dedicated piano teacher throughout her life.
In the final chapter of Joan’s life, she was tenderly cared for by her son Chris Scott, daughter-in-law Tina Scott, private duty caregiver Sandra, and the compassionate Silver Team at Empath (Suncoast) Hospice until her passing.
Joan and Bill will be laid to rest together at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell on Dec. 22, 2023, with the ceremony starting promptly at 10:30 am. Military Honors will be rendered by the US Marine Corps Honor Guard. Their enduring love and partnership, marked by a commitment to the arts and family ties, will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing them.
