On December 28, 2023, Audrey Hyatt Sazama gained her wings and joined her husband and several children in heaven. She was 93 years old. She was born in Washington, DC, the daughter of late Elnora Brauner and Fremont Howard Hyatt. She raised her family in Wheaton, Maryland and settled in Ocean View, Delaware in her later years.
She was an attentive listener and sympathetic supporter to all who needed it. A mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to many, she will be dearly missed.
Audrey was cherished by her family and is survived by her daughter, Sharyn Sazama-Moreau, grandchildren, Amy Boyle, Casey Whitman, Christopher Sazama, Shannon Colwell, Shane Boyle, Jessica Kelsey, Theresa Sazama, William Richardson, Stephen Sazama, Patricia Sazama, Bronté Moreau, and Milan Moreau, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Audrey is preceded in death by her husband, William Joseph Sazama, son, William James Sazama (wife Charlotte), daughter Cynthia Ann Richardson (husband Gerald), daughter Patricia Marie Sazama-Petrov (husband Vladimir), and two babies, Stephen Anthony and Gerard Francis.
She was the sister of Jeanne Sloan and half-sisters Carolyn, Elaine, and Thalia, and half-brother Gordon.
A prayer service and burial will be held at Arlington Cemetery, Washington, DC.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be sent to the American Lung Association.
On December 28th, my beautiful Gram went to be with God. She was reunited with her Husband, my Nana, Patty, Billy & her babies. She is no longer in pain & is finally at peace with those she loved.
To know my Gram was to know love, she embodied it. She would pray over every worry and ailment & she would call just to check in. Gram always made sure to keep chocolate in chicken & dog treats in the cabinet for visitors.
I was very blessed to spend lots of time with my Gram. I talked to her everyday and saw her most. We had so many car rides, doctor appointments (that she would try to get out of), incidents with the tennis balls on her walker, lots of trips through Dunkin’ drive-throughs, countless family dinners, and a handful of furniture fiascos. My favorite thing was to just sit & talk to her- I would sit there until she would tell me, “Well, you better get going.” I have enough stories and memories to last a lifetime.
I will miss my Gram more than words can express. I will miss our long conversations. I will miss our daily phone calls, even the ones that woke me up asking for something from Wawa. I will miss her voice and hearing her say, “love ya, bye!” I’ll miss her hugs. I will miss our coffee dates. I will miss her stories. I’ll miss every single thing about her.
A true matriarch; a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family & anyone who needed love, guidance & prayers.
“I love ya” forever, Gram🤍
Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love. It’s all the love you want to give, but cannot. All of that unspent love gathers in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in the hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go. -Jamie Anderson
