Christine O’Brien, a dedicated nurse and beloved member of the community, passed away peacefully at her home in Largo, FL, on May 19, 2024, at the age of 83. Born on December 11, 1940, in Washington DC to Russell A. Garner and Claudia Garner nee Farron, Christine’s life was marked by profound service and devotion.
On April 6, 1966, she married James O’Brien at the naval base in Pensacola, FL, beginning a loving partnership that spanned 56 years. Together, they nurtured a family that brought her great joy and pride. Christine is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Arnold, her son Stephen O’Brien (Jessica), and grandchildren Liam Riddell, Gillian Riddell, Reanna O’Brien, Rylee O’Brien, and Callie O’Brien.
Christine’s career in nursing began in the US Navy, where she served as a nurse from 1963 to 1966. Following her military service, she continued her nursing journey in psychiatric nursing and public health. In 1978, she relocated to St. Petersburg, FL, where she embarked on a distinguished 55-year career as a Registered Nurse specializing in workman’s compensation case management.
Deeply committed to her faith, Christine was a lifelong Episcopalian whose spirituality guided her actions and sustained her throughout her life.
Services to celebrate Christine’s life will be held at Bay Pines National Cemetery on Friday, July 5th, 2024, at 9am. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, as a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and dedicated healthcare professional who touched countless lives with compassion and grace.
