John Charles DiMaggio

John Charles DiMaggio, 84, of Clearwater, FL died February 1, 2025 at the Bay Pines VA Hospital following an extended battle with kidney disease. He was born in Independence, Louisiana on August 26, 1940 to the late Vincent DiMaggio and Mamie Impastato, and is survived by his wife, Florencia Dimaggio; sons: John DiMaggio, Jr, Marc Fawcett, and Hugo Ocampo.

John relocated to Ft. Lauderdale, FL where he married Florencia Shimura Ocampo on August 18, 1980. Together they shared 45 years of marriage. They would later move to Chicago, IL, where John spent over 20 years working for the Chicago Police Department as a police officer and Deputy Sheriff. In his spare time, he always found himself a good time while golfing, playing pool, or around the poker table. In his younger years, John was known for being a jokester, filled with ambition and energy. He loved good food, good drink, and a good laugh. Blessed with the gift of gab, he could strike up a conversation with anyone.

The family would like to acknowledge and give a special thank you to the countless doctors and nurses at Bay Pines VA Hospital, included but not restricted to, Dr. Ortega, his nephrologist; his primary care physician, Dr. Hull; Dr. Covington, Gloria, Deborah, Melody, April, Iris, Clarence, Sharon, and Shakila at the VA hospice; and friends, Sam and Maureen, Tom and Mike Reich.
A military service will be held in John’s honor at 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, February 18th, 2025 at Bay Pines National Cemetery 10000 Bay Pines Blvd. St. Petersburg, FL 33708
