Mark Gregory Smith, 64, of Murfreesboro, TN and formally a resident of St. Petersburg, FL. Mark was born on July 12, 1960 in Canada and proudly served in the United States Air Force. His dedication to his country was matched only by his love for the great outdoors. Mark found joy in the simple pleasures of life; fishing, boating, camping, and kayaking brought him a sense of peace and adventure that was infectious to those around him. In addition to his love for the outdoors, he also enjoyed sports such as: golfing, disc golf, pickleball, and corn hole. Above all, it was the time spent with his family that he cherished the most. Mark was profoundly devoted to his loved ones. Mark and Laurie’s first date was playing tennis at the Northwest Community Center.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Laurie Legault Smith, children, Regina (Derrick) Kopeck, Katie (Paul) Krogmeier, grandchildren, Wyatt, Antonella, Kyra, Lane, and Callie, and brother, Chris Davis. He is preceded in death by his mother, Trudy Smith Zeller.
A graveside service for Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg, FL where military honors will be rendered.
Laurie,
The news of Marks death, so young, was shocking to me. I have known you since 1973, DHHS friends. That’s a long time. I told someone the other day that our “little group” ate $300,000 in pizza at the Pizza Hut off Tyrone Blvd. Maybe a little exaggerated, but not much.. I loved, via Facebook, seeing pictures of you and Mark together and watching you raise your family. Mark seemed to look at you with big, loving eyes. I love the way he talked about you. I wish I had known him better. Please call me anytime, anything I can do to help. You were – are a special friend to so many of us during high school and beyond. “God please keep your hand on the Smith family during this time of loss. Amen.”
