Carolyn Johnson

Carolyn Johnson was born September 10,1937 to Velma and Joel Winslow. Carolyn was the oldest of 4 (2 sisters and 1 brother) and grew up in Ponce De Leon, Florida. She was known to take care of her siblings as the oldest and be there for her family members.

Carolyn was hanging out with her best friend when she came across a picture of that friend’s older brother, a navy man out on deployment, Paul Johnson. She decided to write to him; she may or may not have fibbed about how old she really was. Several months later, he came home between deployments, went to her house to wake her up and told her to get dressed because they are getting married. They married on January 4 and were blessed with 64 years together. Carolyn traveled up north with Paul for his various deployments until they settled back down in Florida to start their family. They had four strong, strapping boys who kept Carolyn busy. While Carolyn was known to be nurturing and caring, those close to her also knew she didn’t tolerate any shenanigans; a lesson her boys tested with her often and kept her true to her word.

Carolyn spent quality time with her family enjoying NASCAR races, camping, baseball games, and various youth activities for the boys. They would travel to North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. Carolyn was a talented seamstress. She took her talent to her jobs, creating baby clothes for Pixie Playmate and dental chairs for Boyd Industries. Her and Paul’s hard work paid off when they were able to retire and enjoy their grandbabies. She had 9 beautiful grandkids. One of Carolyn’s proudest moments was seeing all her grandkids graduate from high school as shown in Carolyn’s living room where she has all the graduation pictures on display. Carolyn and Paul continued their travels, flying to California and enjoying various cruises to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Alaska. Carolyn traveled all over to spend quality time with her grandkids and 14 great grandkids. Her grandkids and great grandkids knew they were always welcomed at Momo’s house. They knew they would be loved immensely and could get away with a lot at Momo’s; but not too much.

Carolyn passed away peacefully September 15th, 2025; 5 days after her 88th birthday. She is proceeded in death by her husband Paul (2018), her son Kevin (2005), her brother George (2008), her sister Linda (2025), her daughter in law Agnes (2024), her two grandkids Emily (2007) and Stephen (2011), her grandkids through marriage David (2019) and Melissa (2023), and her great-grandchild Suzanne (2019). She leaves behind many loved ones that called her Mom, Momo, and Big Momo.
