Martin was born on April 16, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Jack Rose and Ruth (Berkman) Rose. He spent his early years in Brooklyn before moving to Queens, where he lived in Jackson Heights for over 30 years. After marrying, he settled in Staten Island, New York, where he and his wife raised their family. In 2016, he retired to Florida.
On November 28, 1981, Martin married the love of his life, Peggy (Romani) Rose, at Blessed Sacrament Church. Together, they shared nearly 45 years of marriage.
Martin proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years, including a year stationed in Nha Trang, Vietnam. Following his military service, he began a long and distinguished career with the Associated Press in 1973, where he worked for 43 years. During his tenure, he led the department responsible for providing newspapers with financial markets tables.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Martin is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy Rose; his daughters, Megan Rose and Mary-Kate Lanciano; his cherished granddaughter, Evelyn Lanciano; and his brother, Bernard Rose.
Martin was a true gentleman—steady, kind, and unwavering in his integrity. He carried a quiet strength and always put others before himself. His family was the center of his world, and he supported them with constant love, guidance, and generosity.
He had a lifelong passion for sports, especially as a devoted New York Mets and New York Jets fan. He fondly recalled attending games at Shea Stadium and remained a loyal fan through the years. He also enjoyed college basketball, particularly following St. John’s and the excitement of March Madness.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all of Martin’s friends, colleagues at the Associated Press, Bayada Nursing, Vitas Healthcare, Tenise Jackson, and the VA staff. The compassion and care shown to Martin throughout his life and especially in his final days meant the world to his family.
