It is with profound sadness yet deep appreciation for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Florian Charles Simala, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Florian left us peacefully on April 10, 2026, marking the end of a remarkable 85-year journey that began in Cleveland, Ohio on June 16, 1941.
Florian was born to the late Florian and Cornelia (Fabry) Simala, Sr., and from a young age, he exemplified a spirit of adventure and a thirst for knowledge that would guide him throughout his years. After serving with distinction in the U.S. Air Force, Florian embarked on a journey that took him and his family halfway around the world, living in the Far East from 1967 to 1993. His time there was not just a career, but a grand adventure that he navigated with both skill and a profound appreciation for diverse cultures.
On November 11, 1961, Florian married the love of his life, Nancy Piche, at Our Lady of Victory in West Haven, Connecticut. Together they shared 64 beautiful years, a testament to their unwavering love and commitment. Nancy, along with their cherished children, Florian Simala, III (Yokasta) of Dacula, GA, Sharon Simala of Queensland, Australia, and Judith Simala-Nora (Marty) of St. Pete Beach, FL, remain to cherish his memory. His legacy also lives on through his beloved grandchildren, Johan, Adrianna, Amelia, Bianca, Natasha, Cezanne, and Nikki, who brought immense joy to his life.
Florian was a man of many passions. His love for adventure was evident in his hobbies, which included flying, windsurfing, hang gliding, and riding motorcycles. He was a traveler at heart, always seeking new experiences and savoring good food wherever his journeys took him. These passions were not just pastimes but reflections of his zest for life and his desire to embrace every moment.
Those who knew Florian will remember him for his warmth, his adventurous spirit, and his deep pride in his family and career. His greatest achievements, he would often say, were his successful career overseas and the loving family he nurtured alongside Nancy. Florian’s life was a testament to the power of love, perseverance, and the joy of living fully.
As we say goodbye, we do so with hearts full of gratitude for the indelible impact Florian had on all who knew him. His life was a rich tapestry of love, adventure, and family, a legacy that will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
Florian, you will be deeply missed but forever remembered. May you rest in peace, soaring high above the clouds, as you did in life.
