Loraine E. Rose “Laurie” (Jacobs)


Loraine, age 92, passed peacefully on June 25, 2026. She was born in Tampa, FL, on September 5, 1933, to Fletcher and Loraine (Christello) Jacobs.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Amil Edward Rose Jr.; her parents; her sister, Mary Lou Adams; and her son-in-law, Clay B. “Nick” Nixon Jr.

She is survived by her son, Amil (“Chip”) Edward Rose III and his wife, Linda; her daughters, Kathleen Dunham and her husband, Michael, and Susan Nixon and her fiancé, Robert Williams; her grandchildren, Benjamin Dunham and his wife, Kait, Ethan Amil Dunham, Phillip Nicholas Vail Nixon, Monica Nixon-Houck and her husband, Nick, and Stephanie Nixon-Chu and her husband, Brandon; her great-grandchildren, Ella Olivia Chu and Madilyn Rose Houck; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

While living in Chicago Laurie met her loving husband in 1956. Amil E. Rose, Jr., born in Charleston, WV, and graduate of George Washington University in D.C., while they were both working in the Civic Opera Building in Chicago. She for International Mineral and Chemical Company as Secretary and he as an Accountant for Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America.

They were married June 1, 1957, in Tampa at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Upon return from honeymoon on St. Petersburg Beach and the Smokey Mts, they lived in Chicago until they moved to Hoffman Estates, IL, in 1960 where they lived until her husband’s retirement in 1986.

Her hobbies included sewing and gardening and Genealogy research. Was Corresponding Secretary for the Florida Genealogy Society in Tampa for many years.

Moved to Tampa and enjoyed a wonderful life of traveling including Hawaii and the Bahamas, fishing and boating and swimming at various beaches throughout the USA.

In 2019 they moved to Barrington, IL, to live with son and his wife until husband’s death in March 2022. Son and wife sold their Barrington home and relocated to Tampa where Loraine was born. She had a loving home life with Chip and Linda at her side.

Service Information

A Catholic committal service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at the pavilion at Florida National Cemetery6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida. A Catholic priest will officiate the service.

Flowers may be sent to Veterans Funeral Care, Clearwater, Florida by 5pm Thursday, July 9th.
