Dorothy L. LaPorta, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away at her home on July 31, 2026, after a short battle with cancer. Born on April 21, 1940, in New York, New York, Dorothy lived a life full of love and service that touched the hearts of many.
Dorothy was the cherished daughter of Krispin and Theresa (Jandl) Hamedl. She was raised in a close-knit family alongside her sister, Theresa Calandra, who predeceased her. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her dear son, Peter LaPorta. Despite these losses, she continued to be a beacon of strength and love for her family.
On August 14, 1957, Dorothy married the love of her life, Peter Anthony LaPorta, at Blessed Sacrament Church. Together, they shared a loving and devoted partnership that spanned 69 wonderful years. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and commitment, a foundation upon which they built their beautiful family. Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband, Peter, and her children, Paul, Karen, and Christopher, who brought immense joy and pride into her life. Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, with two more on the way, who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
Dorothy’s career at the Bulova Watch Company allowed her to combine her keen eye for detail with her passion for precision. Beyond her professional life, Dorothy was a woman of many talents and passions. She was an accomplished artist, finding joy in drawing and painting. Her love for reading and socializing enriched her life and those around her. Dorothy also had a deep appreciation for travel, enjoying cruises across the USA and the serene beauty of the beach, always on the lookout for the perfect seashell to add to her collection.
Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a devoted parishioner at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Clearwater, Florida. Her involvement in her church community was a reflection of her generous spirit and unwavering faith.
Dorothy’s life journey took her through various homes, from Queens, New York, to Patchogue, Long Island, and eventually to Clearwater, Florida. In each place, she fostered connections that enriched her life and the lives of those she encountered.
The family fondly remembers Dorothy’s proudest achievement: being a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She also held a special place as an aunt to three nieces and one nephew. Her nurturing spirit and boundless love will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Dorothy’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and joy. Her memory will forever be cherished, and her spirit will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
