Eugene "Gene" Earl Smith, 83, of Clearwater, Florida, formerly of New Brighton PA, passed away on March 15, 2014 in Clearwater FL.
Born July 24, 1930 in New Brighton, PA to the late Earl D. and Inez Yeager Smith, Gene was a 1948 graduate of New Brighton High School. Gene served as a 2nd Lieutenant and tank unit commander in the Third Army Division, Ft. Knox, KY and later as a 1st Lieutenant in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
Gene was a lifelong employee of AT&T and several of its "baby bell" subsidiaries, retiring in 1985 from South Central Bell after 36 years of service.
Gene is survived by his wife Bonnie, a brother Gary Smith of Orlando, FL; a sister, Margaret Smith of Wynne, AR, and six children; Kathleen Bartlett Lafayette, LA; Constance Miller, Marion Township, PA; Michael Smith, New Brighton, PA; Janice Boothby, Houston, TX; Bridget Smith, Galveston TX; and Nancy Jean Hebert, Lafayette, LA; a stepdaughter Angela LeBeouf, Houma, LA and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Eugene Smith.
The family would like to thank the staff of SunCoast Hospice for the wonderful care they provided and the compassion they demonstrated during Gene's stay.
