The General had a great sense of humor. Once he visited the 5th Marine Regt with SgtMaj Overstreet and a young Marine asked him a question we had not been prepared for. Then General took it all in stride and years later while checking into a flight at Ronald Reagan Airport I heard a voice behind me asking about “Airman Muscleman” as I turned there was the General with a large smile on his face. He was a gentlemen warrior in every sense of the word. I was honored to serve in the Corps with him as our Commandant.
God bless him.
Very Respectfully
SgtMaj Robert W. Holub USMC (ret)

A true Marine and leader of Marines. He will be greatly missed. Semper Fi General Mundy!
Our condolences to the Mundy family. Your father was a true patriot and cared deeply about the Marine Corps and about protecting the United States. He was also a role model on how to be a caring and loving father. We know he was very proud of his children, Eliazabeth, Sam and Tim and his grandchildren. General Mundy now rests peacefully with his dear wife, Linda in a better place. He will be missed by many.

Dear Mundy family: It was a great honor and pleasure to have known General Mundy from the unveiling of the War Dog Monument on Guam 20 years ago until the time of the recent installation of the war dog monument at the National Museum of the Marine Corps. He was always so supportive and caring toward the war dog handlers and their dogs and very kind and supportive of my work as the sculptor as well. I will always cherish the fond memories I have of working with him. May God bless General Mundy and your family.
Received a congratulatory letter from the General upon retirement from a civilian employer. Years later met the General in Alaska when he approached me and another Marine from long ago after seeing an item of Marine gear worm by the person I had just met. The General was the kind of person who took interest in other Marines which speaks loud and clear of the person he was. When he introduced himself as a retired Marine he just said, my name is Mundy. I knew right away who he was and thanked him for the nice letter I received 12 years earlier, and told him it was nice to meet him after all these years. Saw the General and Mrs Mundy several times over the next week in Alaska two lovely people. O.J. Lennon USMC 1960-1966.
We are honored to be from the same county as General Mundy. Our prayers go up for his family and friends – he was obviously deeply loved. Please accept our gratitude to him and his fellow soldiers for what they’ve done and continue doing to protect our nation. May God’s love surround you all warmly.
Gen Mundy was a man or vision and real leadership. Always a pleasure to brief him at PP&O.

I am researching local history and was very surprised to find General Mundy’s and his wife’s memorial stone at Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesville today. I think every marine knows of his place in Marine Corps history. Rest in Peace and Semper Fidelis. USMC 1967-74 I Corps RVN.
God bless the family that the General has left behind. I worked with the junior General while the Senior sold me a Christmas tree a couple years ago. I thought he was one of the strongest looking most handsome soldier that I’ve ever seen in my life. Yet, didn’t realize why he looked so familiar as I later found out he was my boss’ father. May the strenght of God continue to shine on this family.

I was honored to work at USO World Headquarters 1996 – 2000 in the Celebrity Entertainment Division. I was lucky enough to have worked there when he was President and CEO. He was a strong warm presence, and I am grateful to have known him. Condolences to his family.
I was fortunate to serve with General Monday as a Company Commander in the 2nd Battalion 4th Marines. As a young 1/st Lt he was my mentor and inspiration. The lessons he taught me have served me well in both my career as a Marine and subsequently in civilian life. I will forever be grateful to him for that experience.
Semper Fi General,
William Piatnitza
