Norman Farnum died at the age of 92 with dignity and in peace on April 9, 2014 in Largo FLA. He was a fine, Christian gentleman with a spiritual and traditionally dignified approach to his world.
He was born in Lowell MA on December 28, 1921 to Norman Sr. and Mildred Farnum and graduated from Greenwich High School, Greenwich CT, Class of 1940. He attended Wake Forest College NC in 1941 -1942, enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1942. He received his pilot wings in 1944 and was assigned to the 15th Air Force B-24s serving in Italy til the end of WWII in 1945. Norman graduated from Boston University MA in 1948 and BU Theological Seminary in 1951. He was ordained in 1948 as a Congregational Christian minister.
His first marriage was to Audrey Elenor Stern (West Medford MA, now from Greenfield MA). He leaves his four children and their families: Meredith Farnum, Silverthorne, CO; Peter Stern Farnum , Duxbury, MA; Gwendolyn E. Kratz and Norman Farnum III, both from Greenfield, MA. He was uncle to Susan Thompson (CT) and Sandra Francis (ME).Norman was pre-deceased in 2012 by his second wife, Lucille T. Pomeroy (Canaan NY). He leaves her four children and their families: Susan Holdren (NY), Cheryl Stewart(CO), Keith Pomeroy(the Caribbean), and Lynda Russo (E. Walpole MA). He had 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Rev. Farnum was ordained through the United Church of Christ for 60 years and had 44 years of active ministry. He served churches in Lakeville MA, Walpole NH, Holyoke MA, West Stockbridge MA/Canaan NY, Cortland NY, Bloomfield CT, Greenfield MA and Church of the Isles, Indian Rocks Beach FL.
Family and friends will gather in New England in August to honor his life. Donations in his name can be made to your local Habitat for Humanity.
