Patria M Summers, 90, of Montello Heights in Lewiston, ME, formerly of Tampa, FL, passed away, on April 27, 2014 at the Hospice House in Auburn, ME, with her loving family by her side.
Born in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico on December 9, 1923, she was one of 16 children. She grew up and was educated on the island. In 1945 she met her husband Harold on the US Naval base in Puerto Rico. They married in 1946. In 1947 they moved to the US mainland. Her husband traveled the world with the US Navy, while Pat and her three sons moved frequently, around the US , following her husband’s military orders. She was a strong, intelligent lady, who held a lot of prestigious jobs, throughout her life. Raising her boys alone while her husband was in the Navy.
In 1990, her husband Harold became a quadriplegic, and was in and out of hospitals and the Veterans nursing home in Tampa, FL, until he passed away in 2009. She stood proud through it all, always researching options and treatments for her husband. She moved to Maine to be near her son Mark and his family in 2009, after Harold passed away. She was a unique lady who will be missed by many.
She is survived by her sister, Blanquita of Puerto Rico; two sons, Mark (Debbie) of Litchfield, ME, Paul (Cathy) of Somerville, NJ; eight grandchildren: Billy, Patricia, Melanie, Natalie, Marybeth, Christina, Laura and Lisa; nine great grandchildren, and many special nieces, and nephews scattered around the country. She was also preceded in death by her son, David, last month (March).
Graveside services will be presented at 12:30 PM on Monday, May 5, 2014 at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513.
