Frank Wilford Conard, 89, of Ocala, FL (formerly of Largo, FL), passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 22, 2014. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Florida in 1972.
He served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Marine Corps and advanced to the rank of Corporal. He was wounded and received a Purple Heart. Following the war, he became a truck driver and eventually owned his own trucking company.
Frank was always known as hard worker and many have commented that he was, “the hardest working man they had ever known”. One of his hobbies was racing stock cars when the family lived in Long Island, NY. He moved from Largo to Ocala in 1993 where he bought property and immediately began to work the land. He continued to do so until the day he died.
Frank had a couple of restaurants that he went to frequently in the Ocala area. Every week would go to Wolfie’s for the meatloaf on Tuesday and the chicken pot pie on Thursday. His favorite breakfast was at Northgate and it consisted of a half order of biscuits and gravy. He always commented about the “big pieces of sausage”.
He loved his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Frank wasn’t supposed to eat ice cream; but, he was known far and wide for sharing his ice cream cones. Anyone who came to visit always received an offer for an ice cream cone.
He was preceded in death in death by his parents, George and Winifred Conard, and his wife of 36 years, Mildred. He is survived by his sons, Frank (Charlet) of Ohio, Kenneth (Patty) of South Bend, IN, and James of Ocala; daughter, Mary Lehman (Gary) of Largo; brother, George (Thelma) of PA and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 9 at Clearwater First Assembly of God Church, 1739 S. Martin Luther King Jr., Clearwater, FL 33756. A visitation will start at 10:00AM and a Memorial Service will follow at 11:00AM.

Frank was greatly admired and loved by us both. He will be greatly missed. Farewell Marine.
You will be missed. Ocala won’t be the same without you. We love you.
Our prayers and sympathy to you. Frank was a very giving and kind man. I have some found memories of him in Ocala. Especially the time he decided he would get rid of the yellow jackets and got stung so bad we took him to the ER? He was the man of steel with a heart of gold…..we will sure miss him. We love you guys!!
