Homer A.N. Sakelos, 87, of Seminole, FL passed away on August 18, 2007 of natural causes at the Palm Gardens of Largo Nursing Home.
He became a local resident of Seminole in 2002 when he moved here from his native Baltimore, MD. He was the former owner of ?Lord Baltimore Florist? in Baltimore, a business that his father started and his daughter, Jacqueline, now operates. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II and was of the Greek Orthodox Faith.
Preceded in death by his parents: Nicholas and Vasiliki Sakelos, Homer is survived by his loving family: his two daughters, Elizabeth Walsh of Seminole, FL and Jacqueline Dezes and her husband, Nicholas of Baltimore, MD; three grandchildren; Jennifer Simsek, Bryan Walsh and Steven Leonard; and a great grandson, Benjamin Simsek.
Funeral services are 10:00 AM, September 9, 2007 at Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, 24 West Preston Street, Baltimore, MD 21201, with Father Dean Moralis to officiate. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service at 9:00 AM. Burial will be private, at the family request, at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Baltimore, MD. He will be remembered as my granddaddy, a man loved by everyone, always full of life, great sense of humor, and he brought a lot of fond memories to my life as his granddaughter. He loved to take me for icecream as a child and pretend to drive crazy on the way home to make me laugh. Always wanting me to play certain songs for him on the piano. Mostly, I will remember how loved he was by everyone and how he loved people. He had a big heart and always made me smile and laugh.

Homer was a kind, loving man. He was a good husband and companion to my mother. He was the only Papou my step-son Harrison ever knew, and he treated him as his own. He was well loved and will be missed.

My uncle Homer was one of the most generous men that I have ever encountered. I have fond memories of working at the flower shop as a teenager during holiday times. He will be missed but not alone. As he will be joining his sisters and brother for many lively discussions.

We had many wonderful chats over the years reminiscing about the past – his family were great friends with my parents. Homer loved to tell me how he helped deliver the flowers for my Mother’s wedding in 1934. I can still see him in his Navy uniform during WWI – he cut a dashing figure. He will be missed.

Uncle Homer was great fun to be around. I have fond memories of him during my summer visits to Maryland in High School. He was very affectionate, generous and always made us laugh.
