James J. McGarry, 63, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away on November 21, 2008 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. James was born in Brooklyn New York on January 18, 1945, and he will always be remembered for his courage, determination, and devotion to his family. James served with honor in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, and was a banker for over forty years. He began his banking career in New York in the 1960’s as a teller, and eventually worked his way up to several senior management positions with various banks in New York and Florida. He was very influential in the area of commercial real estate development throughout the state of Florida. James is survived by his sons, James J. McGarry III, Scott M. McGarry, his grandson Sean McGarry, and his fiancée Jennifer Ehrhart.
While we mourn his passing, we are comforted to know that he is at peace. We are forever indebted to him for the memories he has left us with. We will always love you, Dad. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday December 23, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Skyway Memorial Gardens cemetery in Palmetto, Florida. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer a memorial contribution to the American Cancer Society in the name of James J. McGarry.
