Alan Scott Walker, 62, of Largo, FL passed away Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Bay Pines VA Health Care System.
Born in Washington, DC, he moved here from Atlanta, GA in 1988. He has worked many years in the retail clothing industry and recently for Spencer’s Western World in St. Petersburg. He served in the US Air Force during Vietnam as an air traffic controller, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was known as an artist and a poet and was published two years ago in an Air Force trade magazine. He was a painter and taught himself caligraphy and Chinese. He was also a fan of Country Western music.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Carol; a son, Race Walker of Clearwater, FL; his mother, Lillian of Largo; two stepsons, Steve Olson of Pinellas Park, FL and Patrick Olson of Erie, PA; a stepdaughter, Kirsten Kettell of Largo; two brothers, Craig of Largo and Keith of Gainesville, FL; a sister, Jackie Stalker of Largo; and grandson, Aiden Walker.
A graveside service will take place at12:45pm on Friday, January 2, 2009 at Bay Pines National Cemetery.
His expression through his artistic talents was his driving force. He epitomized the term “starving artist” only because he held his craft so personally and close to his heart. Some knew this well, others may not have understood.
’Poppy’ Walker was a wonderful Poppy to Kayla, and truly someone to look up to. I always knew he was someone I could call on for advice and will miss him terribly.He was the Yen to my mom’s Yang, and I know she is a better person for having known him.(We all are.).
