Harold Milton Summers, HMCS-US Navy-Retired, 84, of Tampa, FL funeral services are 12:00 Noon, Friday, January 30, 2009 at Christ our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 304 Druid Hills, Road, Temple Terrace, Florida 33617 with Rev. Dr. Waldemar Meyer, Pastor, to officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:15 AM until service time. Graveside services are 2:30 PM, Friday, January 30, 2009 at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 S/W 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL with full military honors by the Jacksonville Naval Air Station Funeral Honors Team, Jacksonville, FL.
A native of Harrisville,WVA and a local resident since 1990, when Chief Summers moved here from Deltona Beach, FL; he was a retired hospital corpsman that served our nation for 24 years; a Lutheran; a World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War Veteran. During his military career, Chief Summers was awarded two Purple Hearts; Bronze Star; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal and a National Defense Service Medal. Chief Summers died on January 28, 2009 and he was a resident of the James A. Haley VA Nursing Home in Tampa, FL for 19 years; a Lutheran and he was also during his military career assigned to the United States Marine Corps as a Company Medic. After his retirement, he became an assistant manager in the nursing home field. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patria of Tampa, FL; three sons: Mark E. Summers and his wife, Debra of Litchfield, Maine; Paul Summers and his wife, Cathy of Somerville, NJ and David Summers of Toms River, NJ; four sisters: Josephine James and her husband, Lou of Clermont, FL; Anna Drylie; Margaret Wilk of Jacksonville, FL and Virginia Casenheiser of Ohio; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

No words can describe the loss in my heart of such a dear friend, who I considered my brother. Our days go back to 1972. I have wonderful indelible memories of Harold and Pat helping me bale hay, gather mussels, and snap beans on the farm.
It was my great pleasure to know Harold as a member of his family as he was my father in-law for some years. I watched him love and play with my children and watched him put his children before himself. The way he cared for his loving and beautiful wife would melt a heart of stone. I loved and respected and consider myself lucky to have had the privilege.
I knew my Pop Pop was a hero even before I knew and understood his years of service. My best memories of childhood included him saving me from the deep end of the pool or the dangerous vacuum. I will still think of him frequently with love and memories that will always make my heart smile. I love you Pop Pop.

Harold will always be remembered.
We will always smile when we remember Harold flying down the street in his chair, flag flapping, on his way back to the hospital after spending the day with his favorite “girl”. He was such a joy!!

No words can describe the lose of such a Great man as grandpa Harold. He has touched so many lives! Such an outstanding officer my own son wants to follow in his footstep in the military. No words can describe the love he felt for his amazing wife ( grandma) or the love he had for his three boys whom he was very proud of! Alittle bit more of my heart is missing now losing my mother not more then a month ago and now losing my grandfather too!! Love you always grandpa…
I will miss Harold deeply and am honered to be able to say that we were friends. As a whole the world is a better place because of Harold Summers. Humble, Happy, always smiling. His legacy is profound. Harolds service and dedication to his country as well as his commitment to his personal responsibilities were second nature and lifelong.

My Uncle harold how I’m gonna miss him. He was a man of honor to me. The only man that showed love,care and understanding to me as a child. I enjoyed visiting him and my Aunt Pat over the years, he was always kind and pasitive.

Although I never met Mr. Summers, I heard a lot of great things about him from his Son, Dave. I know he was a wonderful man and I am sorry I never got the chance to meet him. Sincerely, Kathy
I knew Mr. Summers as working with him as a resident at Haley’s Cove Community Living Center or as the older residents remember “The Nursing Home”. He was the first President of the Resident Council and was ver active as it’s first president. We all will miss Mr. Summers in his morning inspection of all areas of operation in and around the facility .As his daily trips to check on Pat. May God mercy and grace be with all during this time .
