Smyth, Carl B., 83, of St. Pete Beach, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009 at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas on April 7, 1929, Carl moved here in 1970. He earned his bachelor degree from Troy State in Alabama. He enlisted in the US Army at age seventeen and served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. His citations include the Combat Infantry Badge second award, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and a Meritorious Service Medal. Carl retired from the Army as a Lt. Col. in 1972. Carl is survived by his wife of 58 years, Charlotte Smyth; two children, Henry of Cortlandt Manor, NY and Debborah Smyth of Woburn, MA; and two grandchildren, Elise and Grady Gilbert. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 26th at 1:00 pm at St. Albans Episcopal Church, 330 85th Avenue, St. Pete Beach, FL 33706. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Social Work Emergency Fund in care of Volunteer Services, Bay Pines Medical Center, PO Box 5005, Bay Pines, FL 33744.
