Graveside services and full military honors by Mac Dill AFB Military Honor Guard will be 10:45 AM, Friday Morning, immediately following the church services at Bay Pines VA National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., Bay Pines, FL; 33744.The family will receive friends at the church from 8:45 AM until service times. A native of Pittsburgh, PA., Chief Woods served our nation for 26 1/2 years as a Ground Radar Superintendant and retired from Fort Lee, Virginia. His distinguished military awards include the Air Force Commendation Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters; Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster; Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters; National Defense Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster; Air Achievement Medal with Bronze Clsp with 5 LPS; National Defense Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster; Air Force Commendation Medal for the Berlin Airlift with Device; Air Force Combat Medal; Air Force Longevity Service Award with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Non Commissioned Officers Academy Graduate Award. Chief Woods was also nominated during his career to become the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force. After retirement, he went to work for Sears and retired from Sears after 20 years of service. He was a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church on Snell Island and attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Chief Woods is survived by his wife, Berta Woods of St. Petersburg, FL; a son, Jim Woods and his wife, Susan of Raleigh, NC; two daughters, Patricia Rhodes and her husband, Randy of Seminole, FL and Susanne Shrewsbury and her husband, Dale of Lutz, FL; a sister, Fay Wiechelt of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and six grandchildren: Tim Woods, Ian Woods, Cory Woods, Ryan Rhodes, Stephen Shrewsbury and Christine Shrewsbury. Please send all floral arrangements directly to the church, prior to services. Hello from Georgia . Was Msgt Woods stationed at Dover AFB during the earlier 1960’s? If so he wrote a wonderful referral letter for my dad. I lost my dad in the 70’s.
