Harold H. Dowlin, 77, of Brooksville, FL, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at HPH Hospice Care Center.
Born in Putney, VT, he moved here from Barkhamsted, CT in 1998. He retired from the Connecticut Department of Transportation after over 30 years of service. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, serving in Germany earning the rank of Private First Class. He assisted in the closing of the Concentration Camps and was an aide to Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, serving in the Honor Guard at the King of England’s funeral. He continued to serve in the National Guard of Vermont and the US Army Reserve until 1956 earning the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was a member of VFW Post 10209, Spring Hill, participating in the Honor Guard and the American Legion in New Hartford, CT.
He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Janet and Evelyn of Virginia. Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Carol; daughter, Shirley Dowlin-Mason of Pleasant Valley, CT; stepdaughter, Audrey Renick of CT; two sisters, Katherine Bradley of MD and Virginia Moore of NH; five grandchildren and two great grandsons.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11am on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009 at FL National Cemetery and a Memorial Mass for the repose of his soul will be celebrated at 11am on Saturday, Sept 5, 2009 at The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Hartford, CT.
