Donald Truitt Goodroe, 80, AOC-Armament Installer-US Navy-Retired of St. Petersburg, FL died on September 8, 2009 at Bay Pines VA Health Care System, Bay Pines, FL of natural causes.
A native of Texarkana, TX and a local resident since 1965, when Chief Goodroe moved here from Norfolk, VA; he was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, FL; a US Navy veteran of World War II, Korean War and the Vietnam War and a member of the VFW. During his military career, Chief Goodroe was a plank owner of the USS Independence (CVA-62); a armament installer and was awarded the Expert Pistol Shot Medal; Navy Good Conduct Medal with 5 Clusters; US Navy Commendation Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Korean Service Medal with 2 stars; United Star Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Navy Occupational Service Medal with ASIA Clasp and a United Nations Service Medal. After retirement, Donald work for several liquor stores and was a security officer for a Silverberg Jewelry Stores.
Preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Vada Goodroe and his sisters, Janet Jones and Pauline Pierpont and Chief Goodroe is survived by his loving family; his wife of 51 years, Nancy of St. Petersburg, FL; his two sons, Curtis Goodroe of Old Town, FL and George Goodroe and his wife, Cynthia of St Petersburg, FL; two sisters, Naomi Davies of St Petersburg, FL and Caroline Drake of Boston, MA and his three grandchildren: Joshua, Daniel and Rebekah Goodroe.
