John W. Larson
“Long time educator & church organist”
John W. Larson, 76, of Clearwater, died October 4, 2009, at Moffitt Cancer Center after a seven-week struggle with metastatic melanoma. He was surrounded by his family and friends.
Born and raised in Lakeland, he came to Clearwater in 1959. He was a long time educator in the Pinellas County School System, serving as a teacher at Kennedy Middle School from 1959-1965, then went into school administration and served as Principal at Clearwater Exceptional Child Center. He served as Assistant Principal & Principal at Madeira Beach Middle School, retiring in 1987. In 1989, he resumed teaching at Fitzgerald & Dunedin Middle Schools. He served his country as a Sergeant in the Marine Corp and graduated from the University of Florida. He is a long- time member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Clearwater and served as organist at Faith United Church of Christ, Clearwater.
John and his wife, Sharon Larson, were married 44 years. He is also survived by his two daughters, Laura Larson Weathers (Brock) and their children, Claire & John, Woodstock, GA, his daughter, Paula Larson, Atlanta, his brother, James Larson (Fran), Dade City, and many cousins, nieces & nephews.
Memorial Services will be held 2 pm Saturday, October 17th at Trinity Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed. Contributions can be made in his memory to the Music Program at Faith United Church of Christ or the Music Program at Trinity Presbyterian Church.

I have great memories of John, my ’junior high school’ principal. You and the girls are very special to Kim and I. We thank God for his example and a life well lived, dedicated to young people.
