Martin M. Mattes,77, HM3-US Navy, of Seminole, FL funeral services are 2:15 PM, Friday, November 6, 2009 at the Bay Pines VA National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., Bay Pines, FL 33744 with Chaplin Larry Merritt and the United States Navy Military Honor Guard, Jacksonville Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, FL, to officiate. Martin died at his residence on October 24, 2009 under the care of the Hospice of the Florida Suncoast and he was a native of Albany, NY. He served in the United States Navy and the United States Naval Reserve during the Korean War and the Vietnam War Era and he was a Hospital Corpsman. During his military career, Martin was awarded the Korean Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; United Nations Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal and he served aboard the USS Kidd (DD-661) and USS Dixie (AD-14). After his military career, he became a Pharmaceutical Representative for Abbott Laboratories and he was of the Catholic Faith. Martin moved to the local area in 1996 from Round Top, NY and he is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Helen Mattes and a son, Stephen Mattes. He is survived by his loving family: his wife, Emma Mattes of Seminole, FL; two sons: Brian Mattes and his wife, Donna and Jerry Mattes and his wife, Lisa, all of Albany, NY: three daughters: Denise Glass and Jamie Glass, both of Kingston, NY and Kelly Floyd and her husband, David of Stoneham, MA; his step-mother, Johanna Kehn of Albany, NY; a sister, Christina Wignall and her husband, Peter of Norfolk, CT and his seven grandchildren: Samantha Glass, Connor Mattes, Patrick Mattes, Thea Consford, Kyra Floyd, Ryan Floyd and Sadie Floyd. The family request, that in lieu of flowers, to please make a donation to the Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, FL 33760 in the memory of Martin M. Mattes.

Marty was a cherished friend and I always enjoyed our visits and conversation and our trips to “The Trop” He battled to the very end and had a tremendous zest for life and he will be dearly missed by all of the lives that he touched.
