Marilyn Thelma Sours died peacefully on December 2, 2009 at East Bay Nursing Center, Clearwater, Florida.
Born on May 27, 1927 in Somerville, NJ, she was the daughter of Thelma Van Doren and Chester Sours. She graduated in 1945 from Scotch Plains High School in NJ and worked for Doubleday in Garden City, NJ.
She was a Private in the Women’s Army Corps from 1951 to 1952 at Fort Sam Houston in TX. She performed the duties of a Signal Message Clerk.
After her honorable discharge, she worked for the City of New York. She moved to Sarasota FL in the early 1970’s. She retired to The Fountain Inn, St. Petersburg in 1999 and moved to Cabot Cove of Largo in 2003. In November 2008 she moved to East Bay Nursing Center.
Marilyn had many wonderful friends and enjoyed socializing, eating out and going to meetings. She loved the beach, music and wearing hats. She was an active Democrat.
She is survived by her sister, Shirley Sours Grannis of Tucson; her niece, Sarah Grannis Shoffler of Bucks County PA; her nephews, Peter and Jonathon Grannis of Denver and Matthew Grannis of Tucson; and her cousins Lois Van Doren Brett of New Haven, CT and Barbara Molkenthin of Aiden SC.
A memorial service will be held at Bay Pines National Cemetery on Friday, February 19 at 2:15 p.m.
