James E. Brickey, 58, GMT3C, Vietnam War Era-US Navy of St Petersburg, FL died at the Garden House, St Petersburg, FL on January 9, 2010.A native of Danville, VA and a local resident since 1971, when he moved here from Johnson City, TN; he was a Gunners mate for the US Navy serving during the Vietnam War Era. During his Navy career, he served aboard the USS Hunley (AS 31) and was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal and also trained as a US Navy Seal.. He was a member of the Clark Street Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Clearwater, FL. He graduated from Science Hill High School Class of 1971. James is survived by his father and step-mother, Glen and Nancy Brickey Sr. of Spring Hill, FL; a sister, Susan Crawford of Clearwater, FL; his two brothers; Glen R. and Laura Brickey Jr. of Largo, FL and Danny and Mary K. Brickey of Bradenton, FL; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. His graveside services and full military honors are 10:00 AM, Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at the Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Street, Bushnell, FL 333513 with the United States Marine Corps, Det. # 708, to officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be make to the Disabled American Veterans in the memory of GMT3C James E. Brickey-US Navy-Vietnam War Veteran.

My thoughts and prayers are with the whole Brickey family. Jim was loved by everyone who knew him — the messages on Facebook tell just a few of the kind, helpful way he had. He was especially dear to my brothers and me as a fun loving playmate and neighborhood friend who will always be remembered.

Our sincere regrets about the passing of Jim, we know some things are expected but until it happens you hope for the best. Jim could not have had better people loving and looking over him, I know Jim lived a simple life but all the little things you did for him made life for him alot easier. Let this time of sorrow be aided by the happier times shared with Jim and family. May God bless you during this time of healing and sorrow.

James came to live at the Carden House when we first purchased in late 1990’s. He was a wonderful man. We truly loved having him there while we owned the facility. Just came across a note on the Carden House website from James’ sister. Please know how much we cared for him. You know, he could be tough at times, but all in all, a really sweety guy. Whom we will truly miss.
