George retired from Operating Engineers Local #324. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post #273. He loved to play golf with his friends and spending time at the pool with his Boulevard Club friends and family. He will always be remembered as the “Candy Man” to all the kids who knew him. One of his dreams was to help find a cure for cancer. He was a very active participant with The Dreamers Relay for Life Team in Redford Michigan. George was truly an amazing person who showed all of us how to face adversity with grace, dignity, strength and determination. He will be missed very much.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, The Dreamers Redford Relay for Life, 20450 Civic Center Drive, Southfield, MI 48076 in memory of George Zimmerman.
George was one of the funniest people I’ve met. I enjoyed being able to call him Dad while Christine & I were in school together. RIP Dad I pray that you are @ peace & you are now healthy & whole again. Prayers & love to Mom & her family. Psalm 48:14
I remember George as a wonderful, loving, friendly and always positive thinking man, he made us kids laugh and have fun with us. I wil never forget the first time we met, I was 13 years old. He said Good day and then I was thrown without warning into the pool in the garden. What a joke! Or in France, when we had lobsters in the bathtub. I would have loved to meet him again, but unfortunately, it was not meant to be. In my memory, he is the great Papa Bear, who was always there for everyone.
He leaves a great void in his family and all will be missing him. I wish his family much strength in the difficult time. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you.

Ya know, when they say you can’t choose your family but you can choose your friends? Hank chose the BEST in George. He never let me forget I was loved and cared for after Hank was gone. During his illness, he still wanted to cheer me up always! A man of character, loving, kind, funny, ( which we all need once in a while), as I sit here with tears flowing..Oh my, ladies, I send You All Hugs, Love, and Prayers! Always…Sharon
It was a pleasure and an honor for us to know George and to be considered his friends.
When we met him, it was immediately obvious that George was a man of character, a loyal man, a man that had a sense of humor and loved life. His laugh and wit will be missed and remembered on the golf course, at the pool, in our lifetime. Sincere condolences to Erika and family.
I will miss George’s sense of humor especially playing CLR! My thought are with Erika and family.
