Shelton Taylor “Nick” Elks, CMSGT-United States Air Force- 86, of Largo, FL passed away at St. Pete General Hospital, in St. Pete, Florida on March 22, 2010.
His funeral is 8:45 AM, Friday, July 9, 2010 at Arlington National Cemetery, “Old Post Chapel of Ft. Myers”, Arlington, VA with the United States Air Force Funeral Honors Team, to officiate. All guests will meet at FT Myers “Hatfield Gate” by 8:00 AM.
A native of Goldsboro, NC and a local resident since 2008. During CMSGT's military career, he served as a Chief Controller and was awarded a Military Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Meal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and a Air Force Longevity Service Award with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a Veteran of World War II, Korean War and the Vietnam War.
After his retirement from the USAF in 1973 he moved to Miami, Florida. Nick received degrees from University of Maryland and Florida International University and later worked for F.I.U. in the Continuing Education Department. He attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Miami, FL. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Nick was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rebecca. He is survived by his children, Jeffrey Elks of Albuquerque, NM, Tanya Elks of Gibsonton, FL, Jason Elks of Largo, FL, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
