Allan David Snyder, Sr.
December 20, 1926 – March 28, 2010
Allan David Snyder, Sr. 83, passed away quietly Sunday in Clearwater, FL. “The Big Guy” was loved by all who knew him, and he shall be missed. He is survived by his 5 children with Mary Ann Snyder. His children and their spouses: Lynn Snyder Goetz & Ron Goetz of Denver, CO; Lauren Snyder Hagan & Mike Hagan, Bonita Springs, FL; A. David Snyder Jr. & Karen Snyder, Oldsmar, FL; Mimi Snyder Archer & Pete Archer, Banner Elk, NC; Johnny Snyder and Roshni Rama, Lenox, MA; his brother Bruce Snyder, Tampa, FL and his 9 grandchildren.
Born in Rutland, VT, Allan lived life to the fullest and was a generous and giving man. He loved his family, friends, travel, reading, education and was known to dress with sartorial splendor. Allan had “joie de vie”! He excelled in all sports but had a passion for water and snow skiing, golf, tennis, and jogging. Allan was a thrill seeker and an instrument rated Pilot who had a passion for flying his various airplanes.
As a young man, Allan was a drummer in his own Jazz band. He traveled the Seven Seas in the Merchant Marines and later he served his country in the Army, 82nd Airborne, as a Lieutenant in the Korean War. After serving his country he attended and graduated from Duke University. In 1958 he moved his family and two children to Richmond, VA where three more children were born and he began his own real estate company: American Brokers.
As Allan’s family grew so did his success. In 1969 he moved his brood to Seminole, Florida and continued a successful career in real estate, where he was founder and CEO of Real Estate Concepts. In 1980 the family relocated to Captiva Island, FL. However proud Allan was of all his many accomplishments, he was most proud of his prodigy.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 2nd at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell with military honors at 2:00 p.m. Later this summer a special celebration will be held for family and friends to celebrate his life on Captiva Island, FL.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Allan’s name to veterans of our military who have served their country.
To the Family,
Remember the good times!
What a special man he was! My thoughts and sympathies to you Lauren and your whole family.
My condolsence. I will neveer forget the night we went dancing.
“Papa” Snyder was gracious and gregarious whenever we visited. He always seemed to have a book in his hand, he had a wonderful, wry sense of humor, and it was a certainty that he loved his family. Our condolences and love to all.
Our thoughts & prayers are with you Snyder family. We are here for you.
To those who knew him well…he was, and forever will be known as the “Big Guy”.
His eldest son, Allan David Snyder,Jr.(Ace) was my roommate in college and became my Fratunity brother(ATO), and my closest friend.Allan’s daughter Lauren, also a close friend, had many of the great trait’s of her Father, “The Big Guy” was a funny “take no prisoners” type A personality. If you were around him, or were a guest @ his Captiva beach front home, you better bring your best”A” game and have a sence of humor …..because he always did. A trait he passed on to his children. All of whom are extremly successful, funny and type A too. But a nicer group of peoplefriends you’ll find no where else. I am proud to know all his children and to have shared in his life. A more generous, and unique man, would be hard to find. He truly “lived life” God Bless you “Big Guy”
and may all the Snyder’s be comforted in the days ahead, knowing he was YOUR father.
With love and respect,
Bruce H. David

Dearest Lauren and Family,
A man’s legacy is the life he has lived and his family, and by all accounts his life was a true success. He has left a profound and proud legacy that will live on through his children and grand children. Lauren and family, you have my deepest sympathies. I never had the pleasure or honor to meet your father but after reading the obit about his life he sounds a lot like my own father who passed away 25 years ago. My father was also a pilot who served in WWII. He was and always will be my hero as I am sure your father will be to you.
So so sorry for your families loss. We shall keep the Snyder clan in our thoughts and prayers.
Sorry to hear about your loss.
Dear Dave, Karen, and all the family ~ what a beautiful memorial to your dad, Allan – he truly lived life to the fullest. As you all celebrate his life ~ we ask God’s blessing and peace on you all. With our Love and Sympathy, Phil and Elize
My thoughts and prayers are with all of the Snyder family. May God Bless you and comfort you in your time of sorrow.
