Veterans Funeral Care Robert Schultz

LTC Dr. Robert “Bob” Grissom Schultz, USAF Ret., age 87, passed away November 16, 2010 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. He resided in Auburn, AL for 34 years prior to moving to Birmingham in 2008.

 

Memorial Service was held at the Auburn United Methodist Church Chapel 220 East Magnolia Avenue, Auburn, Alabama, 10 AM (CST) Saturday, November 20, 2010.

 

Visitation will be held at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home, 1500 Frederick Road, Opelika, Alabama from 6-8 pm (CST), on Friday, November 19, 2010.

 

Dr. Schultz was born March 18, 1923, to Henry and Claudia Schultz in Fredonia, New York. He was the youngest of six children.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Melba Majors Schultz and his son-in-law Andrew Jimmerson. He is survived by their children; Greg (Debbie) Schultz of Leonardtown, MD, Robin Schultz King (Mark) of Columbus, GA, Kelly (Suzanne) Schultz of Birmingham, AL, Matt (Michelle) Schultz of Auburn, AL, and Melissa Schultz Jimmerson of Columbus, GA. He has thirteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

 

He entered the Army Air Corps at the age of 19 during World War II in which he served as a pilot flying the AT-6 Texan, P-40, C-119, C-124, and his favorite, the B-17G. He served his country for 25 years.

 

He earned his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Florida; a dual Master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He worked as a Personnel Director until he retired from Auburn University. After retiring from Auburn, he received his Doctorate in Education from Auburn University at the age of 68 and went on to teach Ethics and Sociology.

 

His love of flying continued throughout his life. He was an avid sports fan to include tennis, golf, baseball and his beloved Auburn football.
