Charles Bryan Tarlton is the son of Indiana Artist, Caleb Bryan Tarlton. Mr. Tarlton passed from this world on January 6, 2011. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, December 4th 1931. After grade school he graduated from Manual High School and then attended the University of Cincinnati on a scholarship for the study of the French Horn and Classical Music. Mr. Tarlton also worked part-time during his time at the University working with a company that assisted in producing serials for radio and later television shows. After college he secured a position in the Canadian Orchestra of Ottawa, and eventually secured a position as 2nd chair and later 4th chair French Horn in the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra where he retired after 31 years of service.
Charles B. Tarlton was a bit of a World War II buff and built and collected model air planes of that era as well as literature on the subject. Charles loved his job and music was his life. He fulfilled his life long dream of playing with a major Orchestra. Mr. Tarlton’s mother bought him his first instrument, a trumpet, when he attended High School and he gradually worked his way up to the French Horn. Charles loved art, museums and history. He loved very much to read about those issues and had quite a library. He also enjoyed movies of the 30's and 40's.
One summer he worked as an elevator operator at the Empire State Building in New York City. Charles traveled the world when the Cincinnati Orchestra took a world tour in the 60's.
Charles was a very big part of of his sister's life. He taught her how to ride a bike and how to fish and bait the hook. He also taught her how to play simple card games, played Monopoly with her, and taught her how to wrap her first Christmas gift. Marsha and Charles play duets, he on his french horn and Marsha on her piano. As a young child, he would play hide and seek with Marsha in the house on winter days. He will be missed very much.
He is survived by a sister, Marsha; and nieces, Julie Michele and Jessica Lynn Schwartz.

I have acquired a painting by Charles father. I’d like for a family member to have the painting. It’s in really wonderful condition, and my research shows that his paintings are much admired.
