Frederick J. Erickson, 81, formerly of Wakefield, MA passed away at his home in Palm Harbor, FL on March 13, 2011.
He was born in Everett, MA to Sydney Nils Erickson and Margaret Gladys Fleming Erickson. Fred was a professional tractor-trailer driver for over 30 years working for both Gulf and Exxon Corp. After retirement from driving, Fred became a tractor-trailer driving instructor for Andover Driving Academy and was loved by all his students. In 1988, he retired to Florida.
Fred joined the Saugus MA Lodge of Elks #642 in 1965 and later became a life member. He brought enthusiasm and innovation to his lodge and served as Exalted Ruler twice. He chaired the building committee where he doubled the size of the lodge and initiated many unique programs such as the Senior Picnic Day and the Soldier’s Home Variety Shows. He remained active in Elkdom at the Dunedin/Clearwater Lodge #1525 since coming to Florida in 1988.
He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Madeline Erickson, who joined the Lord on January 21, 2011.
He is survived by two daughters: Sandra and her husband William Faulkner of Palm Harbor, FL and Shannon and her husband Ken Porter of Port Townsend, WA; six grandchildren – Gina, Debbie, Lisa, Venda, Lorna, & James – and four great-grandchildren – Tristan, Sebastian, Grace, & Joshua.
Services were held on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Dunedin/Clearwater Lodge of Elks #1525, 1240 San Christopher Drive, Dunedin, FL 34698. Interment was held at Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg, FL.
