David M. Howard, 81, of Clearwater, Florida passed away on April 2, 2011 at Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor, Florida. He was born in Delaware, Ohio on September 24, 1929, the son of the late David D. and Clarine Morehouse Howard.
David grew up in Cleveland, OH where he attended public schools and later graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1953. David served his country for two years in the US Army at Ft. Ord, California, and continued his military committment with the Air Force Reserves for over twenty years, rising to the rank of Major. David settled in Manhattan, working for a while for the New York Times and later as a teacher in the New York public schools. He spent many years as an attendence teacher with an office on Times Square. In 2008, he gave up his rent-controlled NY apartment (with a view of the East River) to become a full-time Florida resident in Clearwater where he had purchased his condo years earlier following his teaching retirement.
His advocation was writing, and had two books published.
David will be missed by his family – a brother, niece and nephew.
