Albert H. Smith, 78, of Largo, died on Sunday, April 17, at the Bay Pines VA Health Care System in St. Petersburg, FL. He was born in New York, NY in the Bronx and moved to Largo in 1973.
He retired from active military duty in 1973, following almost 20 years in the US Air Force and 3 years in the US Army. He served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Following his career in the military, he worked a variety of jobs including the Waster Water Treatment Plant in Largo. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, a member of the Korean War Veterans and a member of the USAF Sergeants Association. He liked to play pinochle and was a very caring man with a heart of gold.
His father and mother preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Sandra of Largo; sons, Richard Hauser of Clearwater, FL, Glenn Hauser of Largo, and Mark Hauser of Port St Lucie, FL; daughters, Lucinda Steffy of Wesley Chapel, FL, Jeannie Giles of Newnan, GA; brother, George Smith of Conyers, GA; and twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service has been scheduled at Bay Pines National Cemetery on Monday, April 25, at 12:45PM. Military Honors will be conducted by the MacDill Air Force Base Honors & Ceremony Team.
Al’s two favorite Democrats will miss him terribly. He was always kind and generous, he was a man who never questioned those in need and was always willing to give whatever he could. He will be sorely missed by many and greeted with open arms by a chorus of angels~
