Beloved husband of Joan M. Halscheid (née Barbieri). Dear father of Michael A. Halscheid of North Port, FL and Matthew A. (Kimberley) Halscheid of Cherry Hill, NJ. Loving grandfather of Shade H. Halscheid. Dear brother of William H. (Fran) Halscheid, III of Mullica Hill, NJ and Philip (Janice) Halscheid of The Villages, FL, formerly of Woolwich Township, NJ. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.
Ron Halscheid was born to parents Phyllis M. (née Crudele) and William H. Halscheid, Jr. in Camden, NJ on October 15, 1951. He and his family lived in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, where he attended Cherry Hill High School West. After graduation from high school, Ron entered the U.S. Navy where he served as a Petty Officer 2nd Class earning the rank of TM2 (Torpedo Man) on the U.S.S. George Bancroft from November 20, 1970 until December 28, 1973. During his time of service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He then joined America’s Naval Reserve until November 11, 1975. Ron furthered his education at Camden County College while working as a photographer and a graphic artist.
Ron and his wife settled in Atco, New Jersey, where they raised their two wonderful sons. Married for over 40 years, together they enjoyed many happy decades surrounded by their loving family and dear friends. Leading up to his retirement, Ron was employed with the Camden County Department of Public Works. Ron and his wife then relocated to North Port, Florida in October 2011.
While in Florida, Ron was an active member of the Moose Lodge 2121, Elk’s Lodge 2606, and American Legion Post 110. He was an avid ham radio enthusiast with the distinction of being a Licensed Amateur Radio Operator with Extra Class Privileges. Ron had a particular love of the water with hobbies that included boating and swimming and was also quite fond of home improvement projects. But, most of all, he enjoyed spending time with the people he loved.
Ron Halscheid was a loving and dedicated family man. He was an extraordinarily hardworking individual who never wavered from his responsibilities. His comedic sense was unsurpassed and everyone who knew him could be brought to smile with his encyclopedic knowledge of jokes and pranks. His sense of humor lightened each day and he always had a joke ready for any situation. Ron’s family and friends will miss him profoundly but remember him always as a gentle and protective soul whose memory will serve as a fountain of laughter and love forever.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. May the beautiful memories you shared with Ron give you and your family comfort at this difficult time .
Joan & Family, We are so sorry for your loss. Ron was such a big part of our lives through the years. We had so many good times together as neighbors. Last night as I was looking back and thinking about all the memories we have created over the years, we always remember Ron making us laugh with his funny jokes and great sense of humor!!! When you moved to Florida, there was definitely an emptiness within all of us, but we were so happy for you both. With heavy hearts, we send our love, and prayers to you and the family. You and Ron will forever be in our hearts. Love, Ro, John, Greg and Jenna.
Dear Joan, I met with Ron multiple times and all related to amateur radio. Ron and I met practicing Morse Code and we were both looking forward to making dots and dashes on the air. I was looking forward to more quality time with Ron talking about the Navy days and ham radio on our visit this fall. It was also my pleasure to help him program his radios in you garage this past spring. I’m so sorry for your loss and all of us Hams will miss Ron, his unique voice and friendly smile.
Be well,
Tom Murphy, KK4YES
Joan, Ronnie and I were running mates during our time serving on the Bancroft. Along with Jerry Cantu the 3 of us lived together during off crew in Charleston first at Foley Beach then Ladson, SC in a trailer park. He was known as “Rotten Ronnie” and I was called “Dirty Denny” for all the jokes and pranks we pulled on people, one another and occasionally ourselves. I’m sorry for your loss. Ron was a great person. 44 years after meeting him, he still holds a piece of my history. God Bless you and your family. Dennis Toner
