L/CPL. Joseph B. Lonergan-USMC


L/CPL-USMC- Joseph Boulter Lonergan, 75, of Dunedin, Florida funeral service is Tuesday, 3:00 pm, July 19, 2016 at the Church of the Good Sheppard, 639 Edgewater Drive, Dunedin, Florida with Rector Becky Robbins-Penniman to officiate.  Following the church service, there will be full military honors performed by the Morris F. Dixon Jr. Detachment 54 of the United States Marine Corps. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 PM until service time.  Burial will be with his wife in New Jersey.

A native of Camden, New Jersey, Joe was born on February 11, 1941 to Joseph and Carolyn (Harris) Lonergan and passed away at the Brookside Hospice on July 12, 2016. During his military career, he served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War Era and was discharged from Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, South Carolina where he served as a motor vehicle operator and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Rifle Sharpshooting Badge. After his discharge, he worked and retired from DUPONT Corporation as a lab technician. He was actively involved with the Morris F. Dixon Jr. Detachment 54 of the United States Marine Corps and a member of Church of the Good Sheppard.

Preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Patricia in 2015 and a daughter, Patricia Weber in 2014, he is survived by his loving family: his daughters; Jo Redfield and Melissa Sue Lonergan, both of West Deptford, New Jersey and five grandsons: David Redfield, Jacob Redfield, Joshua Weber, Michael Weber and Colton Weber.

The family requests, that those who wish, may in lieu of flowers, to make a donation to “The Church of the Good Sheppard” or “Toys for Tots Program” C/O the Morris F. Dixon Jr. Chapter # 54 of the United States Marine Corps in the memory of L/CPL Joseph Boulter Lonergan.
