Demetra Irini Mechas, age 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved children on February 8, 2018 at Suncoast Hospice Care Center in Palm Harbor, Florida.
Demetra was born in Kalamata, Greece on March 25, 1942 to Panagiotis and Eftihia Dimitroulias. Demetra and family moved to Clearwater, Florida in 1977.
She is survived and loved by her 2 sisters Eleni Papadopoulos and Maria Anastasopoulos. Demetra had 2 brothers, Anthony Demetroulias, and Socrates Demetroulias who have passed away. Demetra married Michael Mechas on March 15, 1964. Demetra and Michael have 3 children, John Michael Mechas (52), Anthony Michael Mechas (47), and Venetia Aphrodite Peters-Demetriou (a.k.a. Freda Mechas) (41). Demetra is very much loved by her children. Demetra lost her husband Michael on December 7, 2000. Demetra has a daughter-in-law Maria Bonetta Post who is married to John. Demetra was a beautiful person inside and out. Demetra loved her family, Kalamata, Greece, and Clearwater, Florida. Our Mom’s passion was her family, her church, religion, faith, and Greek heritage. Her other passions were her trips to Clearwater Beach, the Greek dances, picnics, and festivals, parks, and cooking. She absolutely loved spending time with her grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are as follows: Viewing and Services will be held at Holy Ascension Greek Orthodox Church 1440 Laura St, Clearwater, FL 33755 (727) 469-8826 on Sunday February 11, 2018. Family-only will pay their respects from 1:00 – 1:30 p.m.; the public is welcome to pay their respects from 1:30-2:00 p.m. The church service begins at 2:00pm. The burial will take place at Curlew Hills Funeral Home Memory Gardens at 1750 Curlew Road, Palm Harbor, Florida 34683. There will be a gathering and light meal at the Holy Ascension Greek Orthodox Church for family and friends immediately following the burial.
Mom – I miss you so much already. You were the best Mom anyone could ask for. Thank you for everything you have done for me throughout my entire life. Know that you are loved and will be missed by so many people. As for now, you have found peace and comfort. With all my heart, I love you. Your son, Tony ❤️
