Dennis C. Phelps, 67, of Port Charlotte, Florida, died on Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011, at the Bay Pines Veterans Hospice Unit after a four month battle with liver failure.
Dennis proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps as an aerial photographer. He later re-enlisted with the United States Army where he was an investigator with the Military Police. Following his discharge, Dennis continued in the law enforcement industry working for the Wrangell, Alaska Police Department, the Alaska Pipeline Security, and Powder Springs, Georgia Police Department.
After retirement, Dennis traveled extensively when he wasn’t flipping houses. He loved taking things apart and putting them back together again. His poor health kept him confined to his home this past year.
On January 18, 1988 he married Mary Ann, his soul mate. He became the step-father to Madonna Ricotta and her husband, Larry, of West Seneca, NY; John Patrick Kelly and his wife Pam, of Canton, GA; and Daniel Patrick Kelly of Lackawanda, NY.
Dennis will be interred privately with military honors at Sarasota National Cemetery. A memorial service is being planned in the near future.
