Dennis C. Phelps, 67, of Port Charlotte, Florida, died on Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011, at the Bay Pines Veterans Hospice Unit after a four month battle with liver failure.
Dennis proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps as an aerial photographer. He later re-enlisted with the United States Army where he was an investigator with the Military Police. Following his discharge, Dennis continued in the law enforcement industry working for the Wrangell, Alaska Police Department, the Alaska Pipeline Security, and Powder Springs, Georgia Police Department.
After retirement, Dennis traveled extensively when he wasn’t flipping houses. He loved taking things apart and putting them back together again. His poor health kept him confined to his home this past year.
On January 18, 1988 he married Mary Ann, his soul mate. He became the step-father to Madonna Ricotta and her husband, Larry, of West Seneca, NY; John Patrick Kelly and his wife Pam, of Canton, GA; and Daniel Patrick Kelly of Lackawanda, NY.
Dennis will be interred privately with military honors at Sarasota National Cemetery. A memorial service is being planned in the near future.

Mary Ann:
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Although I didn’t know Dennis well, he will be missed.
With my sympathy
We are so sorry to hear of Dennis’ passing. We will miss him. He will always be in our thoughts and forever in our hearts. Aloha with sympathy from across the miles.
Sorry I’m so late of this condolence, but I still wanted to express my sadness in finding out that a former Ft. Greely, 526th M.P. Detachment(1977-1978February)had passed to the Service of our Lord. He was a wonderful friend while I was stationed at Ft. Greely, Alaska during those cold winter months. I was over his house to visit with his wife and kids many times and we always had a lot of fun watching Wonder Women and having some emerald wine and his signature, non hangover drink THE Wipeout! He will be missed by myself and all his fellow Rugged Professionals. Apparently He and his family made it to Sourdough status, whereas I was only a “Cheecako” for my one year, hardship tour. We had one heck of a farewell party when I left of the 77th EOD Detachment in Yuma in 1978 February. Dennis even brought me to Fairbanks Airport when I left for SEATAC~LAX~YPG. My most sincere condolences on your loss and best wishes always. My cell#(407) 280-4336. I was the company Unit clerk up there in the Last Frontier and served 10 years total, AZ~FRG Germany-RSA al. MY BEST WISHES THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ALWAYS!
