Daniel Linderman Britten, III, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at the Bay Pines VA Hospital in Bay Pines, FL. He was born in Pottstown, PA and moved to Florida in 1996 from Seattle, WA.
After his graduation from college with a Bachelors’ Degree, he served his country in the United States Air Force from 1972 through 1976. He spent many years as a Social Worker working for as a dedicated employee for the Department of Health for over 20 years and was a Boley Health Care employee for over 15 years.
Daniel, who preferred to be called Dan and was called Danny by his family, was the best big brother for Jeff, Tony, Betty and Mary. He had a heart of gold, was always there to support family and friends and he was always surrounded by his friends. He was an excellent high school basketball player and was a lifetime fan of the Boston Celtics and loved to play chess. He was a loving husband to Julie and a favorite uncle of Chelsea, Harrison and Melanie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Katherine; and his brother, Jeff. He is survived by his brother, Tony; sisters, Betty and Mary; nieces and a nephew; and many friends.
Dan was more than my best friend. We met in 1973 at Rhein-Main AFB and have been close through the years. We shared a barracks room and never had harsh words. He and I played countless games of chess and racquetball both in the Air Force and then later when he moved to Seattle. In good times and bad he has always been a constant force for good in my life. My wife and I named our youngest son Michael Daniel because it seemed only right to have his name a part of our family.
His loss is overwhelming to both my wife and me. Our condolences go out to his family, whom I know he loved dearly, and all those who loved him. To say he was a great guy is such an understatement.
