David Royal Stokes, 75, passed away quietly January 30, 2022, at St Joseph’s Hospital, Tampa. He was born December 29, 1946, in Tampa Florida, the son of Daniel W. and Lilian Avis (Knight) Stokes. David graduated from Chamberlain High School, Class of 1964. Following graduation he worked a bit until enlisting in the US Army in 1966. After an honorable discharge from the US Army, he worked in a factory where he was introduced and married Cathy A. Hurley. They settled in Tampa. Although divorced after 10 years of marriage, they remained close friends throughout the years. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by ex-wife, Cathy; his brother, Wayne Wilson, and sister, Doreen Wilson. Surviving are his daughter, Kathy Renée Balzer and her husband, James, of Zephyrhills; sons, David R. Stokes and his wife, Shelly, of Port Richey and Kevin R. Stokes of Tampa; one grandchild, Kat Clark; brothers, Daniel Stokes and his wife, Sharon; Bart Wilson and his wife, Vera; Lester Wilson and his wife, Lora; many nieces and nephews.
A service will be held 1pm. Friday, February 18 at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave., Bushnell, FL 33513

Uncle David will truly be missed. He was an amazing man and fascinating story teller. I will always remember his introducing me to new books and adventures. His service to our country and his love of life will always be special ❤️
I’m sorry at the passing of your dad who was taken so suddenly from the presence of all who knew him and loved him dearly.He was a wonderful man who had a great personality and wasn’t afraid to show love. Just keep the good memories in your heart.
