It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley Michael Pickett, who left this world on June 1, 2025, at his home in Tampa, Florida. Born on February 17, 1943, in the vibrant Bronx, New York, Stanley was a man of remarkable character, resilience, and love, whose legacy will remain etched in the hearts of all who knew him.
Stanley was the beloved son of Stanley and Catherine (Stars) Pickett. He grew up with a strong foundation of family values that shaped him into the devoted father and grandfather he became. He is preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Catherine Pickett Orlofsky, whose memory will forever be a guiding light for those remaining.
Stanley is survived by his loving daughter, Christine Smith, and his son, Matthew Pickett. He was a proud grandfather to Sydney and Sam Orlofsky, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. His family was the centerpiece of his existence, and his greatest achievements were his children and the unwavering fight he waged against cancer, triumphing over it on two separate occasions.
A dedicated servant to his country, Stanley proudly served as a Captain in the U.S. Army. His military service instilled in him a sense of duty and honor that permeated his life. Following his time in the military, he pursued a career as an accountant at the U.S. Postal Service, where his meticulous nature and work ethic earned him the respect of his colleagues.
Stanley was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tampa, Florida, where he participated in community events and fostered connections with parishioners. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with strength and solace through both joyous and challenging times.
In his leisure, Stanley enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. His hobbies included collecting stamps, coins, and military memorabilia, reflecting his appreciation for history and the stories that items can tell. These passions provided him with much joy and were a means of connecting with others who shared similar interests.
Stanley’s life was characterized by his resilience and steadfast spirit. He faced life’s challenges head-on and was a source of inspiration for those around him. His ability to overcome adversity, most notably his battles with cancer, showcased his determination and unwavering hope.
