On October 21, 2009 Albert Dewey (A.D.) Teague, 84, changed his address to heaven, where his eldest son John met him with open arms. He is survived by his wife, Velma; siblings, Leon Teague and Barbria Looney; son, James Teague and wife Christy; daughter, Debbie Horne and husband Bill, seven grandchildren and 18 (soon to be 19) great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, at Kelview Heights Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 2:30 p.m. CST at Memorial Gardens, Hobbs, NM.
A.D. was born to E.D. and Sadie Mae Teague on April 11, 1925 in Fort Worth, TX and grew up in Mission, TX, where he met the love of his life Velma. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, earning the highest rank of Eagle Scout.
In 1942, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps earning the rank of Private First Class in the Fifth Division. He protected our country during World War II, fighting in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign at the Battle of Iwo Jima, where he was present for the iconic raising of the American flag on Mount Suribachi. A.D. was awarded the Sharpshooter and Purple Heart medals for his skill and brave dedication to freedom and democracy in one of humanity’s darkest hours.
Shortly after the war, A.D. married his sweetheart Velma. Their loving relationship remained strong for 64 years. A.D. worked hard his entire life, first installing auto glass and upholstery and later as a custodian for the U.S. Postal Service in Hobbs, NM. He was an active member of his church community, serving as a deacon for many years.
His family and friends knew A.D. as a kind and generous man whom they could always depend on in times of joy and sorrow. He was a masterful craftsman, capable of building and repairing anything from a clock to an automobile.
For being a wonderful father and grandfather, brother and friend, role model and model citizen, A.D. Teague will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4400 N Big Spring St, Midland, TX 79705-4624.

We celebrate the life of a true American hero. Mr. Teague was a gentleman who was joy to know. We love you all and are praying that God will comfort you with the precious memories you have of this sweet man. Semper Fi.
What a pleasure to have known A.D. and our lives have blessed for knowing him. We are honored that A.D. served to protect us and took his job seriously.
Debbie, you have been a dear friend for 40 years. You have been a wonderful caregiver to your parents and God will bless you for it.
James, you weren’t able to live nearby, you are a good son and your dad loved you so much. Hold on to all of the pleasant memories you have because they are the memories that will carry you through the rough days.
