Veterans Funeral Care Albert "Dutch" Arone

Albert P. “Dutch” Arone, 78, of Largo, FL

Albert lost his brave battle to cancer in Largo, FL. He passed away peacefully with his loving wife and friend, Louise, at his bedside.

Born in Waterton, MA, Dutch was the youngest son of 15 children born to Agnes and Pasquale Arone.

After graduating high school, Dutch served in the US Navy. He later became a firefighter for the town of Watertown which he retired from in 1981.

Dutch was predeceased by his former wife of 46 years, Alice (O’Brien) Arone.

After moving his family to Cape Cod, where they lived in South Yarmouth for many years, Dutch would look forward to entertaining family and friends by playing songs for them on his organ, cooking for them or if you were lucky, you got a tour of his garden! He also enjoyed woodworking, a good western and mostly playing with his grandchildren.

In 2006 Dutch moved to Clearwater, FL with his loving wife and best friend Louise (Gaffney) Arone. He enjoyed many happy days playing horseshoes, swimming, cooking, gardening or just relaxing.

He especially looked forward to the days when his grandson Brien would surprise him and take him away for a fun and sometimes magical day.

Dutch leaves behind sisters Rita and her husband Dave Guginia of South Yarmouth and Kay Malatesta of Hyannis; brothers Peter and his wife Gloria of Burbank CA, Lawrence and his wife Patricia of South Yarmouth, John and his wife Patricia of Yarmouthport and Joseph and his wife Suzanne of Dennisport. He also leaves Heather and Eric Helstrom of Chatham and John and Jodi Carroll of Lebanon NH as well as 17 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Dutch liked people.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis TN 38101.

A memorial service is planned for June 4 at 10 am on Cape Cod at Holy Trinity Church in Harwich. A burial at the National Cemetery in Bourne will follow, as well as a celebration of his life.
