Alfred A. Stango, 93, passed away May 10, 2008. He was born to Joseph and Jeni Stango in Newark, NJ, on December 23, 1914. He married Madeline Rae Stewart in 1939 in Washington, D.C. In 1952 the family moved from Silver Spring, MD to Lewes, DE where for 23 years Al owned and operated a Western Auto Store. He was a member of the Masonic Club; a past President of the Lower Delaware Shrine Club; a Lewes City Councilman for 6 years and for 24 years the Mayor of the City of Lewes. In 1992 when Al retired from being Mayor, the City of Lewes honored him by naming a park after him, so if you ever get to Lewes, Delaware make sure you visit the “Alfred A. Stango Park.”
In 1996 Al and Madeline became full time residents of Largo, FL and he was involved in the Ridge Groves Condo Association, the Italian-American Club, where he served as President for both and the Elks Club. Al is survived by his wife, Madeline; son Marty Hilda of Ft Worth, Texas; daughter Marilyn Tom Ryan of Largo; granddaughter Deborah Proctor Ken of Hudson, FL; grandson David Gooding of Valrico, FL; and great-grandchildren, Katherine, Kenny, and Samantha Jo Proctor and Devon Gooding.

Leave a condolence
Our deepest sympathy and condolences to Madeline and family from ben mercadante and ida beni, members of the italian american club of clearwater.
I remember Al with great fondness. He and my father, Milton – “Buddy” – Gusack became close friends during the early 1960’s. Whenever we were in Lewes my dad would find some excuse to go to the Western Auto where we would inevitably find Al.
