Andre de Corla-Souza

Veterans Funeral Care Andre de Corla-Souza

On July 19, 2009, Dr. Andre de Corla-Souza passed away after a two and a half year heroic battle with colon cancer. He died at home surrounded by his family who loved him and will miss him dearly.

Andre was born November 14, 1974 in Mumbai, India to Cynthia and Cedric de Corla-Souza. He grew up in India, Bahrain and New York. He was a graduate of Archbishop Molloy High School, 1992, Binghamton University, 1996, and State University of New York Health Science Center at Syracuse, College of Medicine, 2000. Post graduating, Dr. Dre completed his residency at Winthrop University Hospital, Mineola, NY and his fellowship at North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System, Manhasset, NY. Andre was certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Sleep Medicine and Dive Medicine. He was a high achiever and belonged to several professional associations, held various appointments, received numerous awards, and was well published.

September 4, 2005 Andre married Namita and shortly thereafter moved to Safety Harbor, FL. A year later, they adopted a puppy, Che. Andre and Che were inseparable. Besides, his dog, Andre loved motorcycles, guns and everything outdoorsy – especially hunting, hiking, scuba diving and kayaking. Even after he was diagnosed and on chemotherapy, he continued to live life to the fullest. No one believed he was sick, and sometimes he himself forgot. He continued to travel with his wife to Peru, Alaska, Spain, Thailand, India and numerous places in the US. When asked how do you feel, Andre said, I feel great! I have continued to do the things I enjoy. Two years into his fight against cancer, Andre felt he had already won, when he said, The average time span to live with my disease is 18 months so as usual I am above average.

Andre is survived by his wife, Namita Kedia and dog, Che of Safety Harbor, FL; parents, Cedric de Corla-Souza of Queens, NY and Cynthia de Corla-Souza of Citrus Hills, FL; and sister, Sharon de Corla-Souza of Stamford, CT.
